Guidance and Discipline in School-Age Child Care

  • Assess the physical environment in the classroom in relation to positive and negative behaviors of children in care

  • Plan a developmentally appropriate daily schedule

1. From Mud Puddles to the Great Lakes: Fun and Easy Aquatic Science

  • Learn to create fun and easy science activities with water. This class is designed for early childhood educators to provide the skills and confidence in teaching science in a fun manner for both the adult and the child.

2. Science Equipment That You Can Build

  • A fun hands on class that will show you how to build low cost equipment to enhance your program. Easy to obtain materials, practical applications, and educational tie-ins with many different subject areas will allow you to expand your program offerings.  

3. Fun and Easy Earth Science

  • Learn to do fun hands-on earth science activities with your students even if you are scientifically challenged! Discover activities that enhance literacy, math, social skills, as well as science.  

 

4. Science and Literacy with Children

  • Use common books to tie in with literacy concepts. With books that you may already have or are readily accessible from the local library, you can turn a child’s book into a science activity day. This class integrates art, literacy, and science.

5. Science Club - Fun Science for School Age Children

  • Turn your program school age children into a science club program. Science activities, ideas that appeal to school age children, and integrating science into your program will be covered. Have fun for you and your students.

Sticks and Stones: No Bullies Allowed!

Instructor: Toby Ward, foster parent, limited license social worker and certified K-12 Special Education teacher

  • Bullying is common among children of all ages, but it shouldn’t be acceptable. Does your center or program have a solid and correctly marketed anti-bullying policy in place? This course will help you build your center’s anti-bullying policy from the ground up or help you to keep your existing policy current. Although this course is geared for school-age programs, the material presented can easily be adapted to younger ages.
